Doncaster Children’s University completes first Warhammer Guild project for home educated students

Posted: 13 March 2025

The first Home Ed Warhammer Guild project at University Campus Doncaster recently celebrated its successful completion. Spearheaded by Heather Coultard, Project Leader at Doncaster Children’s University, and James Whitaker, Game Development Lecturer at University Campus Doncaster, the initiative offered an engaging creative and strategic workshop designed for children aged 11 and above.

In partnership with Doncaster’s Children’s University (CU) and Warhammer Alliance, the weekly sessions ran from late January to early March 2025, introducing participants to the world of Warhammer. The workshops combined miniature figure making, storytelling, and strategic gameplay, allowing young people to develop skills in art, mathematical problem-solving, teamwork, and strategy. Whether experienced players or newcomers to the game, all participants were welcomed into a supportive and imaginative space where they could learn, create, and compete.

James remarked, “The project has been an excellent way to blend creativity with friendly competition. It was inspiring to see the students engage in the strategic aspects of Warhammer, learning to think ahead and work collaboratively as a team. Watching their enthusiasm for both the fun and the strategy was wonderful, and it was rewarding to see their skills grow throughout the process.”

Project Leader Heather concluded, “The Home Ed Warhammer Guild was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore creativity, storytelling, and strategic thinking in a fun and interactive environment. Through the hands-on experience of building and painting miniatures, participants not only learned about the rich world of Warhammer but also developed valuable skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and decision-making. It was incredibly rewarding to see the students immerse themselves in the project while having fun and making new connections with their peers.”

The success of this project marks a significant milestone for Doncaster Children’s University, showcasing the powerful combination of creative arts and strategic thinking to engage and inspire young learners.
