Posted: 5 December 2024

As University Campus Doncaster celebrated the achievements of this year’s graduates, the institution also took time to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of local organisations to the Doncaster community by introducing the University Campus Doncaster Community Awards, designed to honour those making a significant impact on both the lives of students and the future of the wider Doncaster area.

This year, an inaugural award was presented to Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DBTH), an organisation that has shown exceptional dedication to healthcare, education, and community service. Serving over 440,000 people across South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire, DBTH is a leading acute trust and one of only five Teaching Hospitals in the region, making a profound difference to the health and well-being of the local population.

DBTH was recognised for its commitment not only to providing outstanding healthcare but also to fostering a culture of learning. By offering a wide range of training opportunities across clinical and non-clinical roles, DBTH equips healthcare professionals at all levels with the skills and knowledge needed to excel. Their educational partnerships with institutions such as University Campus Doncaster and Sheffield Hallam University further enhance these programs, ensuring the next generation of healthcare leaders is well-prepared for success.

With cutting-edge facilities and a forward-thinking approach to healthcare delivery, DBTH sets a strong example of community-focused service and innovation. Their dedication to improving health outcomes and providing high-quality care reflects their ongoing commitment to collaboration and the well-being of Doncaster’s residents.

Chief Executive Richard Parker, Director of Education and Research Professor Sam Debbage, and Head of Education Kelly Turkhud were present to accept the award on behalf of DBTH, celebrating the organisation’s unwavering dedication to advancing health, education, and community unity in Doncaster.

Professor Sam Debbage, Director of Education and Research at DBTH, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award from University Campus Doncaster.

“For many years, DBTH, Doncaster College and University Campus Doncaster have worked closely to widen access to rewarding careers in the health and care sectors, ultimately fostering better health outcomes for our communities. This recognition reflects our shared commitment to empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals and supporting our community’s health and wellbeing.”

Additionally, Club Doncaster Sports College was recognised for its exceptional contribution to sports education, providing young people in Doncaster with high-quality learning and career opportunities in the sports, health, and fitness sectors.
