Over 200 graduates gathered at Cast Theatre in Sir Nigel Gresley Square on Tuesday 29th October for University Campus Doncaster’s Class of 2024 graduation ceremony, marking the end of their studies with an uplifting celebration filled with pride.
DN College Group Deputy Principal, Daniel Fenwick opened the ceremony, congratulating the graduates on their achievement. “Today, we celebrate each of you and all of the years of hard work, dedication and growth which have brought you here today” he said, recognising the determination it took to reach this milestone, also acknowledging that although the class of 2024 graduates may not realise it yet that they are an inspiration to others, and they should not underestimate the impact of their achievements has on those around them.
Along with graduates, almost 650 family members and friends joined representatives from across the City of Doncaster and from University Campus Doncaster’s partners, including Sheffield Hallam University and University of Hull, whose support has strengthened the educational journey for each student.
A standout moment of the day was a powerful speech by Musharaf Asghar, widely recognised for his inspiring journey on Channel 4’s Educating Yorkshire. Affectionately known as “Mushy,” he shared his story of overcoming a severe stammer with the support of a dedicated teacher and other pivotal figures in his life. His message encouraged graduates to believe in themselves, persevere, and understand that each challenge they conquer shapes who they are. Mushy’s words left everyone inspired by the strength that comes from resilience, courage, and community.
This year’s ceremonies also introduced the new University Campus Doncaster Community Award, honouring local partners who made a significant impact on students and the Doncaster community. This year’s recipients, Club Doncaster Sports College and Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, were recognised for their dedication to supporting students and enriching the community, making Doncaster a better place to learn and grow.
Assistant Principal Daniel Bown closed the ceremony with words of encouragement for the graduates. “Your future is in your hands. Harness the dedication and passion that brought you this far and let it guide you as you move forward” he said. His words reflecting the day’s theme of perseverance and growth, encouraging graduates to take the skills they gained and apply them confidently to their next steps.
Leaving the theater that was filled with cheers and applause, the graduates carried with them a sense of pride and possibility, this day marked not only an academic achievement but a celebration of personal growth for many. The Class of 2024 now steps into the future with the knowledge and experiences to make a meaningful difference wherever their paths lead.
